CIA Community Laces Up for the 13th Annual Run for Your Knives™ 5K

The Run for Your Knives 5K walk/run started in 2011 by the CIA Alumni Council to help support CIA students at the New York campus pursue their passion for food and hospitality. On October 12, we celebrated 13 years of this amazing event where CIA community rallies together to raise funds for student scholarships. This was my second time attending and let me tell you, this year there was so much extra energy, and everyone was so excited to participate. At 7 a.m. 700+ students filled The Egg in the Student Commons for breakfast provided by our generous sponsors. At 8:45 a.m., participants lined up; the air horn blared for the race to start. Runners took off for three laps around the school while the walkers only had to do one. Once you crossed the finish line you were gifted a medal and a goody bag from our sponsors including snacks, drinks, and a beautiful knife from Zwilling.
At 10 a.m., the raffle for scholarships started and students won over 30 scholarships that added up to more than $70,000 for students to put towards tuition. Students were on the edge of their seats the whole time, if a raffle number was called and no one claimed it quick enough students started counting down to go to the next raffle number. The energy in The Egg was off the charts for the whole event, just as we came to a close one of the members of the Alumni Council saw our energy and school spirit and decided to donate two more scholarships, it was so incredible! I am so sad this was my last time participating as a student but I’m so excited to watch this event grow, and see students continue to be supported by our generous donors and sponsors.
