The Culinary Institute of America Announces New Trustees

Hyde Park, NY, October 30, 2020 – The Culinary Institute of America named two new trustees to its board during its annual meeting earlier this month.

Nicole Miller Regan is managing director and senior research analyst at Piper Sandler, where she covers the restaurants and branded hospitality universe. Prior to joining the company in 2006, she worked in equity research at ThinkEquity Partners in Minneapolis, and at Sterne, Agee, and Leach in New Orleans. She was winner of ICR’s 2012 best restaurant stock pick and earlier this year, was named one of the “50 most influential women in foodservice” by Nation’s Restaurant News. Miller Regan earned her Bachelor’s degree from The College of Saint Benedict, and her MBA from Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business. In addition to being a member of CIA’s board of trustees, Miller Regan is a member of the board of the New Orleans Culinary and Hospitality Institute. She recently completed her service on the board of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.

J. Riley Lagesen is partner and national restaurant industry practice group chair at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. He founded the restaurant industry practice group—now roughly 60 professionals strong—based on his many years working in, managing, and owning restaurants prior to practicing law. He serves as lead outside counsel to many of the nation’s most recognized restaurant brands and culinary talent, and created the popular “Restaurant High” business, leadership and advocacy summit. Lagesen is working behind the scenes to effect critical federal, state, and local relief legislation during the COVID-19 pandemic. With his client Chef Guy Fieri, and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), he co-founded the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund (RERF), which has raised more than $23 million and awarded more than 40,000 grants to restaurant employees. His tireless efforts on this front resulted in his being recognized by the National Law Journal as a 2020 Crisis Leadership Trailblazer.

“It is an honor to welcome Nicole and Riley to our board of trustees,” said CIA President Dr. Tim Ryan said. “Each brings a wealth of experience and insights that will help us continue to drive forward CIA’s educational mission and industry leadership for years to come.”

CIA’s Board of Trustees consists of 25 highly respected leaders in the foodservice industry and business world. They provide expert governance and guidance for the not-for-profit college and are not compensated for their services.
