Imagine a scenario where you could take a walk or run around a college campus and come away with a scholarship to help pay for your education. For lucky CIA students it happens every fall, thanks to the generosity of the college’s many devoted supporters.
Always a highlight of Alumni Weekend at the New York campus, the Run for Your Knives ™ 5K Run/Walk was spearheaded nine years ago by members of CIA’s Alumni Council to support our students and invest in the future of food and hospitality. The event has since grown in every way possible, to this year’s record number of runners and walkers (more than 420), sponsors and supporters (more than 70), CIA scholarships (69) and scholarship dollars (more than $62,000). Student runners, walkers, and volunteers were all eligible for scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500, awarded by random drawings in The Egg after the run/walk. As you can imagine, the suspense and excitement was through the roof!
And while not everyone could be a scholarship winner that day, the first-, second-, and third-place race winners in each division were awarded a medal and a knife kit. And all participants received a commemorative Run for Your Knives T-shirt and a swag bag full of goodies that included, yes, a chef’s knife.
Run for Your Knives is just one of the many ways our supporters help our students achieve their dream of a CIA education. They also fund CIA scholarship opportunities that students can access and apply for throughout the year through the college’s $hef scholarship database (from which more than $1 million is awarded annually). Together, CIA’s extended family of alumni, industry, and friends is helping to give a leg up to the next generation of leaders.
